Family Education from the Chicago Stage…

The Lehman trilogy is a Tony Award winning play that tells the story of a family over 200 years—from their arrival in America to the demise of Leman Brothers in 2008. There are moments in the play that feel so familiar—whether you are a small family with no big history—or a family thick with history. It is a powerful, human story, with opportunities for reflection, insight, sadness, and possibility. It is of course a live theater production that will resonate more for some than others. And it’s a long theater experience; you may want to go to the matinee, instead of the evening production. But GO!!!

Theater has long been an important source of human education for me. Those of you who've heard me allude to anything written by Stephen Sondheim (Children Will Listen, from Into the Woods is haunting my brain this week) to Terrance McNally plays (Mothers and Sons took my breath away) will understand that I am a fierce advocate for using theater as as a tool in family education—and the process of continuous learning.

Knowing how much I took from seeing The Lehman Trilogy in Los Angeles in 2022, Shery Johnson (wisely!) booked seats for herself at the Chicago production, coming up. (See info below.). I hope family members will follow Shery's lead and take advantage of this remarkable production.

And I’ll offer up a pop-up Zoom (education) debrief, critique session for interested family members later this year!
