What is the HCS Education Program?
A program; a community; an opportunity to build family cohesion and future preparedness. It’s virtual and online; available to all.
Many colleges and schools offer excellent financial education programming, why not just do that?
That’s true, and family members are encouraged to explore and engage in a wide range of learning experiences. Readiness for succession, family leadership, and governance are is enhanced with experiences in both external programming, shared by many families; and bespoke programming, specific to the four branches of this family. The HCS Program is customized and gives family members a safe and private space to delve more deeply into issues that cannot be well explored in more generic programs.
Developing our own program seems expensive. How do we make sure we get value from this investment?
It is a real investment in intellectual capital. Just as businesses invest in employee education to stay competitive, families on the cusp of new and relevant information and financial fluency to assure that family members are future ready and competitive. Investment is maximized with attention to thoughtful metrics and a culture of participation.
How will we know if this investment is worth it?
Like any innovation, measuring impact and effectiveness, quantitative and qualitative is critical. And effective measurement is complicated: what are the right metrics? What if programming is strongly impactful for some; not for others? Obviously if assessed not valuable it will be disbanded. The Education Committee and the Family Office is deeply involved in continuous evaluation.
